What Dental Laboratories Should Check Before Buying Zirconia?

Choosing zirconia based only on the MPa value is not always practical.

A laboratory usually needs to consider several points.

(1). Strength

Different restoration designs have different mechanical requirements. Check the manufacturer's stated flexural strength and recommended applications for the selected zirconia.

(2) Translucency

Higher translucency can be useful for aesthetic cases, while higher-strength grades may be preferred for certain posterior or multi-unit restorations.

(3)Shade

White zirconia gives technicians

more freedom during coloring. Pre-shaded zirconia reduces part of the coloring process.

(4) Multilayer Structure

For multilayer zirconia, the position of the restoration inside the blank affects the final shade transition. CAM nesting should take the layer structure into account.

(5) Sintering Program

Different zirconia materials may require different firing parameters. Laboratories should use the sintering recommendations for the selected material rather than applying one program to every zirconia block.

(6)Milling Compatibility

The blank diameter, thickness, holder type, and CAM settings need to match the milling system.
