CEREC CAD/CAM SYSTEM
Dec 17, 2019| CAD CAM (Computer Aided Design-Computer Aided Manufacturing) means the computer-assisted tooth design and production.
Rather than the classic measurement with spoon technique (the measurement is taken from the inside of the mouth), CAD-CAM dental design allows taking pictures from all the jaw and teeth thanks to an intra-oral camera integrated with the computer.
Hence, it is possible to design the prosthesis with one session and to achieve perfect restoration in very short time. CAD-CAM technology, becoming the most prominent application areas of digital dentistry, enables our patients to have new teeth just in 2 hours.
All porcelain crowns, zirconium crowns, porcelain laminate veneers, inlay and onlay porcelain fillings have become available with this technology.
WHEN IS CEREC CAD-CAM USED?
For patients having a problem with taking measurements with a spoon, because of nausea reflex.
For patients, who would like to achieve faster and more aesthetic results, who have limited time and do not want to lose time with fittings.
For the patients, who would like to use the prosthesis as soon as possible
For patients, who have aesthetic concerns about the construction time of the prosthesis and request more rigorous work in their teeth.
For patients having loss of teeth and tooth deficiencies.
HOW DOES CEREC CAD-CAM SYSTEM WORK?
The essence of the system can be explained as follows; the images obtained from the intraoral camera, which take the 3D optical measurement. The images are processed with appropriate software (CAD) or manually with the dentist or automatically by the software; then, they are sent to a very sensitive burr machine.
With this method, inlays, onlays, crowns, bridges and fixed prosthesis substructures are produced from zirconium and porcelain blocks.
Since the Cad Cam system measures the tooth in 3D form, it allows us to design by taking intraoral pictures rather than taking a mold by placing a soft material on the teeth.
This method of obtaining the exact dimensions of the tooth from all angles reveals the suitable structure in a few minutes. Hence, the desired prosthesis on this site can be applied without problems and the treatment is completed within approximately 2 hours.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF CEREC SYSTEM?
1-Shortening the duration of treatment: One Visit Dentistry
With the CAD-CAM system, the restoration and application can be completed in one session in the clinical environment. Since the dental treatment can be completed in two hours, it minimizes the time loss for both the physician and the patient.
2- The aesthetic materials with high biocompatibility increased the opportunity to use the materials.
In addition to patients’, the modern aesthetic digital dentistry’s request, the search for reliable materials in the biological sense has increased the demand for metal-free prosthesis dental treatment. Thanks to CAD-CAM system, the materials such as sintered-glass, zirconium and porcelain-based materials and their derivatives are increasingly used in the dentistry since before they were hard to process with conventional methods although they are aesthetic in terms of appearance and their biocompatibility is high.
3-Traditional Measurement Method has been abandoned.
The Cerec CAD-CAM system has completely replaced the traditional measurement, model in wax and this provided a great advantage for patients, suffering from nausea and/or gag reflexes during the measurement is taken or having limited mouth openness.
4-CAD-CAM Reduces Error Probability.
CAD-CAM high-resolution, laser-assisted oral micro digital camera takes precise measurements at micron level and creates a big difference compared to traditional methods.
5-In addition, CAD-CAM systems, and digital measurement also minimize the risk of infection from conventional measurement and adaptation.
6-CAD-CAM has increased the success and improved the aesthetic look of implant treatments.
A-Implant placement with digital dentistry
It is possible to take a view of the site, where the tooth is missing on the image taken from the 3D tomography and where the implant will be placed, by using an intraoral camera with 3D Cerec Camera. Both images are superposed in the computer environment,
A 3D software is used to find the possible restoration solution and optimal implant placement angle as well as depth. Thus, the risk of complications is reduced in both implant surgeons, and the prosthetic superstructure to be built on the implant is prepared perfectly.
B-Production of Zirconium superstructure
The Cad Cam device is able to prepare implant abutments from zirconium or reinforced ceramic with high biocompatibility, so that special aesthetic and functional zirconium abutments can be attained.
Hence, when zirconium or ceramic abutments are preferred, then the abutments, which ensure maximum aesthetic appearance due to reflection of light as natural teeth, adapt at maximum to the oral tissues and minimize the bacteria formation, are used.
HOW IS DENTAL TREATMENT PERFORMED WITH CAD-CAM DEVICE?
1st Stage: Measurement is taken with an optical camera. Measurement taken is transferred directly to the computer, to which the camera is connected.
2nd Stage: When the computer converts the images into a three-dimensional image with a special program, the dentist determines the margins and the contours, hence, the suitable design is completed. The system can provide restoration in a structure similar to the patient’s existing teeth with the biogenetic feature of the system.
While the dentist can complete the procedure with the help of these recommendations, s/he can manually make changes. It is possible to check the contact points of the teeth, wear virtually the teeth, change the contour, increase or decrease the contact point frequency with the opposite teeth.
3rd Stage: After the design is finished, the block with appropriate color and size is selected. The block is processed with the burring machine and the tooth form is obtained.
The blocks used with the CEREC system may be glass ceramics reinforced with feldspar and leucite, as well as porcelain ceramics and nanoceramics with high resistance such as lithium disilicate.
4th Stage: Polishing, coloring and glazing of porcelain, zirconium, and any other material in the form of inlay or onlay filling. High-tech furnaces are used for this process.
After taking the digital measurement with CAD-CAM system, used in Dental Voyage Turkey Clinic, it is possible to complete the design and the production next to our patients and the procedure can be completed in one session.
